IT was a mixed reaction from Newcastle High School students to this year's Higher School Certificate biology exam.

Students The Herald spoke to after the exam yesterday were confident they passed, but its content evoked more debate.

Stockton's Kiel Shrubb, a prospective engineer, described the exam as "a hybridisation of bad and terrible".

But Sophie Bright of Merewether said she was impressed with the paper.

"They were all the questions I had studied," said Sophie, who hopes to study journalism.
